Laser Surgery

We employ a high tech surgical laser in surgical procedures performed at
Oak Knoll for several reasons;

Less Pain: The laser seals nerve endings as it "cuts."
As a result, your pet will experience less pain and be
more comfortable post operatively.

Less Bleeding: The laser seals small blood vessels
during surgery. This speeds many procedures,
reducing the time your pet needs to be under anesthesia
which further reduces possible complications.

Less Swelling: Laser energy does not crush, tear or
bruise tissue because the only thing that touches your
pet is an invisible beam of light.

Reduced risk of infection: As the laser removes

diseased tissue, it seals the skin and reduces the amount of bacteria
present.

Quick return to normal activity: Healing is rapid and there is less
post-operative discomfort and a better course of healing.

Dentistry

Most people don't realize the impact that a dirty mouth
has on their pet. Gingivitis and periodontal disease are
even more common in pets than in people, but you
wouldn't know it from looking at them. The teeth we see
are those big canines in the front. These are rarely

used for eating, and they usually look great!

In the back of the mouth, where most chewing is done, is where the tartar and plaque build-up is the worst. The gums begin to recede and pockets develop which in turn fill with bacterial growth. That bacteria spreads

through the blood stream to every part of the
body and weakens your pet's immune system.

When your pet is brought in for a dental
cleaning, their teeth will be cleaned one by
one with an ultrasonic scaler that breaks apart
tartar and cleans the tooth right down to the
enamel. We will examine the gum line and
check for any pocketing that may have
developed, and can even apply a special
veterinary tooth sealant to keep your pet's
teeth looking their best!

Wellness Care

The importance of wellness care cannot be
overstated. Most ailments that might affect your pet
will not be noticed right away, and waiting until there
is a problem will reduce the chance of effective
treatment.

Due to this fact, when you bring your pet in to be
vaccinated we will perform a full physical
examination. Our doctors will study everything about

your pet; weight changes, joint mobility, skin and coat condition, eating
and drinking habits, teeth, gums, you name it! We also ask that you bring
a sample of your dog's feces in with you to be examined for parasites.

If you have a senior pet (for canines over seven years old and for felines over ten years old) we offer comprehensive blood panels that are specifically designed for older pets. Ask us about senior care when you make your appointment.

Diagnostics

Our pets are genetically predisposed to hide any
illnesses or injuries they may have. Because of this, we
use state of the art laboratory equipment to get an
inside picture of what your pet isn't showing on the
outside. Our in house laboratory gives us same day
results on blood, urine and fecal tests and we even use
a sophisticated out-lab for other tests.

For our surgical patients, we perform on site blood work to check liver
and kidney function before administering the anesthetic to limit the risks
associated with anesthetic gases.

Euthanasia

Making the decision to euthanize your pet is very difficult. We, at Oak Knoll, want to make that process as comfortable for you and your pet as possible.
When it comes to making the decision, there are some things for you to consider.

  • Would you like to be present in the room during the procedure?
  • Would you like your pet to be cremated, and if so, would you like the ashes back?
  • Alternatively, would you prefer to take your pet's body home after euthanasia?

We also offer some options for keepsakes:

  • A clay paw print of your pet's paw
  • A photo of your pet (alone or with you)

Oak Knoll Animal Hospital is committed to helping you get through this difficult time with as little pain as possible.  If you would like more information about euthanasia and cremation, of if you have any questions, please contact us at (952) 929-0074.
